How to become a radio amateur

Amateur radio is regulated by international convention. This means that you can’t simply construct or buy a piece of amateur radio equipment and use it. You need a licence from your national telecommunications regulator. You will be able to obtain a licence when you have shown the necessary level of technical understanding of radio communications and, in some countries, satisfied some other requirements.

Most countries have a national amateur radio society, and for more information on the requirements in YOUR country, please contact your national society. A list of national societies is available here

Once you have your licence, you can construct or buy your equipment, and operate it.
