At its meeting in Sofia, Bulgaria, last week, the Region 1 Executive Committee (EC) reviewed the voting returns for the recent ballot of Region 1 Member Societies, concerning proposals to change the Constitution and Bylaws. The EC, noting that sufficient Societies had voted in favour of the changes, authorised the adoption of the revised Constitution and Bylaws, and agreed that the new documents should be placed on the Region 1 Website.

Voting for the nine Resolution was as follows:

Resolution 1: For: 63 Against: 1
Resolution 2: For: 64 Against: 0
Resolution 3: For: 64 Against: 0
Resolution 4: For: 64 Against: 0
Resolution 5: For: 62 Against: 2
Resolution 6: For: 62 Against: 2
Resolution 7: For: 61 Against: 3
Resolution 8: For: 62 Against: 2
Resolution 9: For: 63 Against: 1

Votes against include (as required in the constitution) those who abstained from voting.

For Resolutions 1, 2, 3, 4, 6 and 7, 46 votes in favour were needed for approval.

For Resolutions 5, 8 and 9, 60 votes in favour were needed for approval.

Commenting on the result, IARU Region 1 Chairman Ole Garpestad said:

“I am pleased that our Member Societies have supported the changes which were discussed at our last Region 1 Conference. The changes bring the Constitution into line with the way that we need to run the Region, and will help improve our overall efficiency.”
