Successful ARISS Contact for Liceo scientifico Giacinto De Sivo

arisslogTuesday, November  20, 2012 at 08.31 UTC, which is 09.31 CEWT, students at Liceo scientifico Giacinto De Sivo – Fondazione Villaggio dei Ragazzi, Maddaloni, Italy established an ARISS contact with NASA astronaut Kevin Ford KF5GPP onboard the International Space Station. Kevin operated with the ISS callsign OR4ISS. This was a telebridge contact performed by ARISS ground station IK1SLD installed at Casale Monferrato Airport, Piemonte, Italy.
 
The high school Liceo scientifico Giacinto De Sivo of the Fondazione Villaggio dei ragazzi of Maddaloni has been committed, since its foundation, to spreading scientific knowledge, focusing on the several domains of science. Its goal is to promote new teaching strategies, capable to dynamize students. Knowledge shall not be based on handbooks only, but approached by research and critical discussion. Liceo scientifico is part of the Villaggio dei Ragazzi foundation, which comprizes six fields of study: Technical, Aeronautics, Musical, Linguistic, Transports and Logistics and Scientific High Schools. All 1500 students of the Foundation were involved in the ARISS project, under guidance of the Scientific Lyceum. Questions asking students  
ARISS mentor Francesco De Paolis, IK0WGF proposed a telebridge contact to the radio contact coordinator Marcelo Teruel IK0USO, who decided in favor of this setup. The contact took place in the school, where an audience of about  300 students and visitors participated. Before the contact, Marcelo Teruel IK0USO presented the ARISS program and the procedures during a contact with the ISS via Ham Radio.
 
At 08:31 UTC, contact with OR4ISS was established by ground station IK1SLD, co-operated by Max Canepa IW1CNF. Using the Kenwood radio in the Service Module, Kevin Ford KF5GPP answered 15 questions from the students. During the pass, the astronaut asked to switch over a back up channel, due interferences from earth. Anyway, the signal from the ISS was loud and clear all the time.>

ARISS school contact planned November 20

An International Space Station school contact has been planned 20 November with participants at Liceo scientifico Giacinto De Sivo – Fondazione Villaggio dei Ragazzi, Maddaloni, Italy. The event is scheduled to begin at approximately 08:31 UTC, which is 09.31 CEWT.

The contact will be operated by IK1SLD, located in northern Italy. The downlink signals  should be audible over Europe. Interested parties are invited to listen in on 145.800 MHz FM.

Successful ARISS Contact for 1 Circolo Didattico G.Marconi, Casamassima, Italy

arisslogFriday November  9, 2012 at 12:53 UTC, which is 13:53 CEST, students from 1 Circolo Didattico G.Marconi, Casamassima, Italy established ARISS contact with JAXA astronaut Akihiko Hoshide KE5DNI onboard the International Space Station. Astronaut Akihiko Hoshide KE5DNI operated with the ISS callsign OR4ISS.

This was a direct contact performed by amateur radio club station IZ7RTN installed at "Cittadella Mediterranea della Scienza", University of Bari, Italy.

The Didactic Center "Marconi" in Casamassima di Bari, South Italy includes one Primary School and two Nursery Schools. There are more than 800 students and a teaching staff of 70 teachers, directed by headmaster Mrs. Rita Rosaria Gagliardi. The Primary School has multimedia and scientific laboratories, while the students play an active role in a number of projects on Science, Music, Dance, Theatre, Physical Education and more.

Michele Mallardi IZ7EVR, radio contact coordinator for this event, decided in favor of the setup for a direct contact, with assistance from the ARISS telebridge station IK1SLD installed at Casale Monferrato Airport, Piemonte, Italy. The contact took place at "Cittadella Mediterranea della Scienza", University of Bari, where an audience of about 250 students, visitors and Media, including 12 Italian Air Force officers, participated to the ARISS contact.

Before the radio contact with ISS, Michele Mallardi IZ7EVR presented the ARISS program, the operations during an contact with the ISS via Ham Radio, and the life of the astronauts in space.

At 12:53 UTC, contact with OR4ISS was established by station IZ7RTN. Using the Kenwood radio in the Service Module, Akihiko Hoshide KE5DNI answered all 20 questions from the students, exchanged final greetings and closed the contact. During the pass, the signal from the ISS was loud and clear.

ARISS school contact planned November 14

An International Space Station school contact has been planned Wednesday 14 November with participants at Gujarat Council Of Science City, Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India. The event is scheduled to begin at approximately 10:18 UTC, which is 11.18 CEWT.

The contact will be a telebridge operated by IK1SLD, located in northern Italy. The downlink signals  should be audible over Europe. Interested parties are invited to listen in on 145.800 MHz FM.

The contact will be broadcast on EchoLink AMSAT (node 101 377) and JK1ZRW (node 277 208) Conference servers, as well as on IRLP Discovery Reflector 9010.

Gujarat Science City (GSC), working under the aegis of Department of Science & Technology, Government of Gujarat, is emerging as a large-scale science popularization platform in the country to promote innovative and experimental activities through hands-on activities and minds-on exposures.The approach and methodology of the Gujarat Science City is focused on informal community based learning which is different from the formal mode of education. All of the programs are intended to enliven the imagination, foster creativity and develop a spirit of inquiry, especially in young minds. Schoolchildren, during their visit, are discovering the wonders of science and technology and get an access to the most exciting and contemporary form of entertainment regardless of the social stratum, education or age group and create a culture of learning.

Successful ARISS Contact for Italian Schools in Govone, Priocca and Diano d’Alba, Italy

Thursday  November  8, 2012 at 12.04 UTC, which is 13.04 CEST, students from Institute Comprehensive in Govone, Nino Costa Middle school in Priocca and Institute Comprehensive in Diano d’Alba, Italy established ARISS contact with JAXA astronaut Akihiko Hoshide KE5DNI onboard the International Space Station. Astronaut Akihiko Hoshide KE5DNI operated with the ISS callsign OR4ISS.

This was a direct contact performed by amateur radio station IK1SLD, installed for the event in Planetarium in Turin, Italy.

The two Junior High schools Nino Costa of Priocca and T.L. Dalmasso of Govone are integral part of the Comprehensive School of Govone in the province of Cuneo. The municipal territories of the Comprehensive School of Govone are situated on the left bank of the river Tanaro; this district, which is a hil country, is called "Roero" and it's famous for its fine wines. The inhabitants live mostly in the plein where the schools can also be found while on the top of the hill there is the old town center where is the towmhall. The students came from the small towns of Govone, Priocca, Magliano Alfieri, Castellinaldo, San Damiano. The school is attended by about 300 pupils, aged between 3 and 13 years.

Mr. Claudio Ariotti IK1SLD, radio contact coordinator for this event, decided in favor of the setup for a direct contact, with assistance from the his ARISS telebridge station (IK1SLD) installed at Casale Monferrato Airport, Piemonte, Italy and operated by Max Canepa IW1CNF.
