2011 IARU Region 1 50 MHz Contest

The annual IARU Region 1 50MHz Contest, which will take place, as usual, on the third weekend in June (18./19. June 2011). This year the Vereniging voor Experimenteel Radio Onderzoek in Nederland (VERON) will be adjudicating this contest. Contest rules are available in VHF Manager's  Handbook V 5.42 - Chapter 5

Participants from countries that do not have VHF Manager or Contest Committees nominated can, by exception, send logs directly to the email: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. (deadline: 27. June 2011)

The annual IARU Region 1 145MHz Contest and the IARU Region 1 Microwaves Contest, will take place, as usual, on the first weekend in September and October.

Preparing a – Pre-conference - Web Conference
Having sifted through the documents, I have planned three web conferences to address the following subjects:

Streaming the Conference in the Web

All meetings of the C5 Committee will be made available as audio streams in the Internet. In this way, all VHF managers unable to attend in person can still follow the events. Right now we are working to meet the local technical requirements.

Report from IARU Region 1 Satellite Coordinator

Current active OSCAR satellites

There are currently 8 satellites carrying voice transponders:

  • AO7 – linear transponders
  • AO27 – FM transponder
  • FO29  - linear transponder
  • SO50 – FM transponder
  • AO51 – FM transponders
  • VO52 – linear transponder
  • SO67 – FM transponder – launched since my last report
  • HO68 – linear and FM transponders – launched since my last report

The ISS has a number of different operational modes which are activated whenever possible on the 2 metres and 70cms bands. Additionally there are than fifteen cubesats currently active transmitting a variety of data and CW beacons and a number of Russian satellites which also use frequencies within the 70cms band for their data downlinks.
