ARISS contact planned in Switzerland

An International Space Station school contact has been planned with participants at the Girl and Boy Scouts of Maur: Pfadimuur, Forch, Switzerland on Saturday 22 August. The event is scheduled to begin at approximately 08:20 UTC, which is 10:20 CEST. 

The contact will be direct between OR4ISS and HB9TSO. The contact should be audible over parts of Europe. Interested parties are invited to listen in on the 145.800 MHz FM downlink. The contact is expected to be conducted in English. The ARISS contact will be distributed on EchoLink *AMSAT* and *JK1ZRW* conference servers, as well as on IRLP Discovery Channel 9010.

The international year of astronomy inspired a few scout guides from Maur near Zürich, Switzerland to create a special scout event, the Astrocamp 2009, where participants from 5 to 20 years shall learn about the following three topics which are scout qualifications: astronomy and space technology, communication technologies, journalism and public relations.

ARISS Contact with Night of Stars, Belgium a success

An International Space Station school contact was performed with participants at Night of Stars, Euro Space Center, Belgium on Thursday 13 August2009. The event started at 20:05 UTC, i.e. 22:05 CEST. The contact was a telebridge with ARISS groundstation W6SRJ, located in Santa Rosa, California, operated by Bill Hillendahl, KA6EJB.

Graham Lawton, G7EVY distributed the audio on EchoLink *AMSAT* and *JK1ZRW* Conference servers, while Doug Leblanc, VE1LDL made it available on IRLP Discovery Reflector 9010.  At Euro Space Center, Dominique Gering, ON4DGF conducted operations. All 20 questions were answered and time was left for Frank De Winne, ON1DWN to say how much amateur radio school contacts are appreciated by the crew.

ARISS CONTACT PLANNED WITH NIGHT OF STARS, BELGIUM

An International Space Station school contact has been planned with participants at Night of Stars, Euro Space Center, Belgium on Thursday 13 August. The event is scheduled to begin at approximately 20:05 UTC, i.e. 22:05 CEST

The contact will be a telebridge with ARISS groundstation W6SRJ, located in Santa Rosa, California. The contact is expected to be conducted in French with astronaut Frank De Winne, ON1DWN. "Night of Stars" is dedicated by the Euro Space Center to amateur astronomy. Amateur astronomers present their activities to the general public. Students participating to this event are delighted to ask questions to a space explorer on board the International Space Station.

The radio contact audio will be distributed on the EchoLink *AMSAT* and *JK1ZRW* Conference servers. It will also be available on IRLP Discovery Reflector 9010.   

Astronaut Frank de Winne on board ISS evaluates Amateur Radio

Thursday, 23 July 2009 at 19:35 UTC, i.e. 21:35 local time, “Ugo Guidi” School, Forte dei Marmi, Italy, established a direct contact with ESA astronaut Frank De Winne on board the International Space Station. The Amateur Radio school station operated the contact with callsign IQ5VR.

ARISS CONTACT PLANNED WITH SCHOOL IN PORTUGAL

An International Space Station school contact has been planned with participants at Escola E.B.2/3 de S. Romao do Coronado, Trofa, Portugal on 21 July. The event is scheduled to begin at approximately 17:07 UTC, i.e. 18.07 local time and 19.07 CEST. The contact will be direct between OR4ISS and CT1HHP. The contact is expected to be conducted in English.
