CEPT approves a draft Decision for 23cm band/Galileo RNSS coexistence

CEPT WG-FM meeting # 109 held over the week 10 – 14thFebruary approved a draft ECC Decision identifying the frequency bands for the European Galileo satellite navigation system and the operational measures for ongoing 23cm band usage in the range 1258 — 1300 MHz. The draft Decision (No. ECC DEC(25)01) is currently undergoing “member notification” until the 28thFebruary followed by formal Public Consultation that will last for 6 weeks until 11thApril. The draft as it stands is available here. With this procedure in mind it can be assumed that the final approval will take place at the end of June at which time the preferred date for implementation will be agreed.

New chair in Youth Committee

The Executive Committee (EC) is happy to announce Mario Lerma Martínez, EA1JAY, as the new chair for the IARU Region 1 Youth Committee. After a proposal from the Youth Committee, the EC unanimously voted for the proposal.

Please join us in welcoming Mario and wish him all the best in this new role.

For those of you who don’t know Mario, he has been kind enough to provide us with a brief presentation:

I am Mario EA1JAY, a Full License holder since mid-2018, actively collaborating with URE in promoting amateur radio among young people since the 2018 edition of December YOTA Month (DYM). Since then, I have coordinated the event at national level in Spain and helped organize youth-oriented activities. Since 2022, I have been part of the Youth Working Group/Youth Committee, where I started coordinating DYM at international level.

I have participated in every YOTA summer camp since the Bulgaria edition as a representative of URE and, since 2023, as part of the Youth Working Group/Youth Committee. This experience has allowed me to connect with a large number of young operators who share the same passion and goals, further motivating me to continue promoting this hobby among youth.

I am usually QRV on HF, VHF, and UHF, operating in both analog and digital modes, and hopefully soon in CW as well. As an RF Engineer, I am fascinated by the wide range of opportunities that amateur radio offers, not only from a technical perspective but also as a fun and social activity that has allowed me to meet lots of new friends. Over time, it has become more than just a hobby, it has definitely become a lifestyle for me.

Join the ENAMS global monitoring system Webinar

Global and continuous spectrum monitoring is a necessity for cooperation with your authorities and for the development of EMC standards favorable for amateur radio.

In order to support the global network, IARU suggests to deploy 3 to 5 monitoring stations in your territory — this will enable your radio amateur society to participate in the gathering, analysis and interpretation of radio disturbances in our HF bands.

There are already about 60 monitoring stations continuously monitoring our bands. It is important to deploy monitoring stations also in your area.

The system designers of DARC (German Radio Amateur Club) are glad to explain the benefits of this global monitoring system in the following Webinar session:
