YOTA at “QSO Today Ham Expo”

From 7th to 9th of August YOTA from IARU R1 and R2 will be taking part in the first virtual ham expo ever: “QSO Today Ham Expo”!

The event will include a whole new virtual platform with #virtual booths from 45 organizations with lots of information about their matter. There will also be an auditorium for presentations just like we are used to. The event is accessible globally with both computers and phones.

YOTA online – livestreams of session #2

Are you ready for the second YOTA online session already?
Did you set your alarms to 25.06.2020 – 1800 UTC?

BUT WHAT IS YOTA ONLINE?

The Youth Working Group within the IARU Region 1 created a newly developed program called “YOTA online”. In these monthly gatherings we will try to bring the YOTA feeling towards the online community and spread the word that there is youth in ham radio. A YOTA team consisting of active youngsters will present different topics, while answering questions from the community. There will also be a section where different recent YOTA event hosts will be able to present the highlights, while also giving participants the opportunity to share stories. This will be followed by a Q&A session with the group presenting. At the end of the event we will also do a prize raffle amongst all participants.

WHERE WILL IT BE HELD?

We will be streaming live again on our Youtube, Facebook and Twitch channels. Furthermore, we try to stream via the QO-100 geostationary satellite in DATV mode again.

HAM RADIOnline

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, this year’s HAM RADIO in Friedrichshafen had to be cancelled as so many other events world wide.

DARC decided to offer instead an online event, the HAM RADIOnline from June 26th to June 29th. This online event will feature many interesting topics related to our hobby, such as operating and broadcasting technology, honors, talk groups and interviews. 

HAM RADIOnline will start on Friday, June 26th evening (CEST).

IARU will be present with its own space during the event.

Contest IARU Reg. 1 50 – 70 MHz

In Corona times the Contest Working Group discussed via mail if it could have been safe and fair to have Multi Operator categories for this June; the advice was that we need to comply with most of the guidelines of our countries. 

Therefore this year there will be no Multi-operator categories during the 50⁄70 MHz IARU-R1 contest in June. We know that some countries are less strict than others about social distance and other restrictions. Those kinds of restrictions could be in the advantage of some multi-op stations, and this would not be fair. 

We advise all Member Societies to promote this year the Single Operators to participate in this contest.

Take part in the contest next June 20th-21st.

News from DARC — 50 MHz

The Federal Network Agency made a preliminary provisional implementation of the WRC-19 results for the 6‑m band in MItteilung 111 from Amtsblatt 08/2020.

German radio amateurs have now access to the frequency range 50,000 MHz – 52,000 MHz, on a secondary basis with a max. the bandwidth of 12 kHz with all types of transmission using Antennas with horizontal polarization.

Now also Contest operations are permitted.

In addition to the — based on the result of the WRC-19 — extended frequency range from 50 to 52 MHz, above all a significantly improved power control for the 50,000−50,400 MHz subband has been ordered. Holders of Class A (“A license”) can now transmit with a maximum of 750 W PEP, holders of an “E license” with 100 W PEP.

This new regulation is the result of a series of meetings between the Bundeswehr primary user and the DARC’s Frequency Management Unit (DK4VW and DF2ZC) that started in late 2018. In the meantime, a very factual and trustworthy basis of cooperation with the military frequency management has been established.
