The Defense Advanced Research Project Agency (DARPA, USA) has issued the first call for proposals for its Ouija programme, which aims to use sensors on “near-Earth satellites” (VLEOs) to gain new insights into the propagation of HF (shortwave) radio waves in the ionosphere. Due to the high density of charged particles, signal propagation in the ionosphere is difficult to predict. Continuous monitoring of the ionosphere in-situ (i.e. “right on the spot”) would for the first time allow near real-time predictions. The HF Committee of IARU Region 1 will continue to follow the topic closely and report on it.
Unfortunately there seem to have been a temporary issue with log submission on the ARRL web site. The following has been posted on UK reflectors:
ARRL has advised that IARUHF Championship logs submitted between 0000 UTC Sunday, July 10 until 2000 UTC on July 10 have not been received correctly. This applies to logs even if you have received a confirmation email immediately after submission (at 12:17UTC after the test).

The first YOTA contest session of 2022 is coming up soon. Take the opportunity to test your stations a week prior the CQWPXCW contest, or better yet, open your radio station to the next generation and become a station sponsor. Give the next generation a chance at the radio and work the active ones in the YOTA Contest.
Thus, we want to remind you that we will have three (3) YOTA Contest sessions coming up in 2022 again. Lots of participants enjoyed the 2021 sessions already and thus we hope to get even more people involved into the events this year.
The upcoming three sessions will be taking place on the following days:
1st round | 21st May 2022 | 0800 – 1959 UTC 2nd round | 23rd July 2022 | 1000 – 2159 UTC 3rd round | 30th December 2022 | 1200 – 2359 UTC
So, are you ready to compete within the next YOTA Contest? Everyone in the ham radio community can take part, it takes place three times per year and only lasts 12 hours. Its aim is to increase the youngsters’ activity on the air, strengthening the reputation of the YOTA program and demonstrate the support for youngsters across the world.
During the past year we have received several rule translations into various languages. A big thank you to the contributors! So, if you are not that fluent in English, check them out here.

We are happy to announce the final results of the third round of YOTA Contest 2021. They can now be found on ham-yota.com/contest. Congratulations to all for achieving great results among the competition.
Throughout the log submission period we received nearly 700 logs from all over the world. We want to thank everyone participating and thus introducing as well as engaging the youngsters around the world to the world of contesting. Without you all this event would not be possible!
Further, the YOTA Graphic Design Team did a great job providing the 2021 YOTA Contest Awards. They are now downloadable for all participants at ham-yota.com/contest.

After careful deliberation, the SPDX Contest Committee, together with Polish Amateur Radio Union (PZK) and the SPDX Club, has decided to cancel the 2022 SPDX Contest.
Since the start of the war in Ukraine, Poland has so far taken in more than 2 million refugees. Polish radio amateurs offer Ukrainian refugees accommodation in their homes and their help and services in any way they can.
Under these exceptional circumstances, the organisers have decided that this year’s SPDX Contest will be cancelled.
